Artists information

Julia Schnitzer’s photographs on display at Delicious Artspace document the rushing by of life without the expectation of imminent arrival. They deal with the adrenaline rush and the anonymity of the big city. Schnitzer, who is fascinated by the infinitely colourful pageant of life, attempts to capture this tumult of colour and density through her photographs. Her images depict frozen moments that convey the impression of having too much colour and too much information in them – they are pure agitation. The photographs, which swing between the two motifs of proximity and distance, in one instance convey a closeness that has a jarring effect, and in the next show us empty spaces and broad vistas that seem familiar to us.

Julia Schnitzer, born in Vienna in 1974, studied English language and literature and Slavonic philology at Oldenburg University and Communications Design at the Kunsthochschule in Braunschweig. She has lived and worked in Berlin since 2000, and is a photographer, designer and professor of communications design.
